IJGA will publish several types of content in each quarterly issue. Each issue has a theme that is timely and relevant to our community. The IJGA editor typically announces the theme for each issue in a call for submissions and solicits articles from INTOSAI members and the auditing community to support the development of each theme. Content submitted for the quarterly issues in the following categories should reflect and support IJGA’s mission and goals articulated above.
We are currently soliciting articles for our Q2 and Q3 2023 editions, which will be focused on Science and Technology (Q2 2023) and Audit Methodologies for Impact (Q3 2023). The deadline for technical article and spotlight article submissions for these issues is July 21, 2023.
Technical articles are being solicited. However, because we have thematic editions and generally have a number of technical articles under review for publication, we cannot guarantee when articles submitted and/or accepted will be published.
Given the Journal’s use as a teaching tool, the articles most likely to be accepted are those that deal with pragmatic aspects of public sector auditing. These include case studies, ideas on new audit methodologies, or information on initiatives or programs related to capacity building and knowledge sharing. Theoretical articles will receive a low priority and are unlikely to be published.
IJGA seeks technical articles that have:
- Appropriate scope and level for the public auditing focus of the INTOSAI Journal.
- Thoroughly researched and factually accurate content.
- Clearly written, original content that addresses key issues affecting the SAI community
- Valid methods, rationale, and conclusions.
- Applicability to other public auditing organizations. The article should provide lessons learned or best practices, implementation information, and expected effect or impact if implemented by other public auditing organizations.
- References that are current and relevant to the subject. If any references are used, they are required to be properly cited (preferably with Chicago style citations).
Submission Criteria: Articles should be no more than 1,500 words in length; photographs, charts, graphs, and other images should be at least 300 ppi and should be sent as separate .jpg files (please do not embed these in Word files).
IJGA publishes three spotlights on key issues affecting its community. These spotlights highlight examples, case studies, and best practices, among other things, related to capacity building; science and technology; and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Spotlight on Capacity Building: Highlights various ways SAIs can continue to develop and strengthen the skills, abilities, processes and resources that SAIs need to operate, adapt, and thrive. This spotlight seeks content on capacity development tools, frameworks and guidance, best practices, and efforts to strengthen SAI integrity, transparency and accountability.
- Spotlight on Science and Technology: Demonstrates SAI efforts to evaluate and audit issues related to science and technology—both in terms of how auditors conduct their work and how they can stay abreast of these issues vis a vis the government programs they audit.
- Spotlight on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Highlights innovative and productive efforts across the INTOSAI community to inform efforts among SAIs to ensure their staff are valued, respected, and treated fairly. This spotlight also seeks content on real-life examples of ways that auditors can address diversity, equity and inclusion in their audits of their government programs.
Submission Criteria: Spotlight contributions should be no more than 1,000 words. If you send a photograph or graphic, please ensure that its resolution is at least 300 ppi and send it electronically as a separate .jpg file attachment. Please do not embed photos into Word documents.
The INTOSAI Journal will now publish News and Inside INTOSAI articles on a rolling basis on its website outside of the quarterly cycle. This will facilitate timely reporting and information sharing. Please submit News and Inside INTOSAI article submissions as they are ready.
IJGA will accept articles with information about new activities relevant to your audit office. Examples include the appointment or retirement of an auditor general, publication of an annual or special report, the implementation of new or revised audit legislation or mandates, an anniversary special to your organization, or a “special project” within your office or as part of a collaborative effort with other SAIs. Please include your SAI’s e-mail address and website. Please include hyperlinks to the referenced reports, projects, etc. if possible.
Submission Criteria: Contributions should be approximately 2-4 paragraphs, or up to 500 words. If you send a photograph or graphic, please ensure that its resolution is at least 300 ppi and send it electronically as a separate .jpg file attachment. Please do not embed photos into Word documents.
IJGA will accept articles with news about INTOSAI’s working groups, task forces, committees and subcommittees, and regional bodies. Please send information about new activities of your group that would be of interest to the broader INTOSAI community. Examples include ongoing group work, the publication of special documents, training initiatives, reports on regional working group congresses, and collaborative efforts with other INTOSAI groups or external organizations. Please include your group’s e-mail address and website. Please include hyperlinks to the referenced publications, etc. if possible.
Submission Criteria: Contributions should be approximately 2-4 paragraphs, or up to 500 words. Reports on regional working group congresses can be longer—up to 1,000 words. If you send a photograph, chart, graph or other image, please ensure that its resolution is at least 300 ppi and send it electronically as a separate .jpg attachment. Please do not embed photos into Word documents.
