Kimberly (Kim) Bassett-Nelson serves as Controller at the U.S. Government Accountability Office within Financial Management & Business Operations (FMBO), where she leads oversight of Acquisition Management, Budget, Financial Management, Internal Controls, and Travel operations. A seasoned accountant and budget professional, she is known for delivering strategic financial insight, strengthening fiscal stewardship, and ensuring compliance with federal requirements.

With more than 34 years of experience in federal budgeting, accounting, and auditing, Kim has held senior leadership roles across government. She has served as Branch Chief for Budget Execution at National Aeronautics and Space Administration and as Budget Director at Federal Communications Commission. Her career also includes key roles at the Department of Labor, Federal Aviation Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Department of Energy, giving her a comprehensive perspective on the full federal financial lifecycle from formulation and execution to performance management.

Beyond her technical expertise, Kim is widely respected for her leadership and commitment to people. She prioritizes mentoring and developing staff, driving process improvements that reduce administrative burden, and advocating for resources that enhance both organizational effectiveness and employee well-being.

Kim holds a Master of Business Management from the University of Maryland and a B.S. in Economics from Bowie State University.
